Keeping to my tradition these past 4 years, I cooked my Thanksgiving feast on a trail again this year - Croaking Frog Trail in the Banner Forest trail network!  I've included 3min of video highlights below.

There was a narrow rain-free window forecasted from dawn to 10am so I left quite early.  I saw no one else on the way in.  After about 2 mile I found the perfect spot and set up the table, chair, stove, tarp and even table cloth.  The menu this year was: turkey & dressing inside a lasagna noodle roll, turkey & dressing inside a puff pastry roll, a pear stuffed hassle back yam, a cranberry sauce filled blood orange, 3 escargot bourguinon, a French cheese tray and chocolate truffles.  What a delightful setting for a terrific feast!  I left no trace of course.

The trails feel wild despite being in Port Orchard because of the thick trees & undergrowth of sword ferns & huckleberry.  Seemed perfect for summer birdwatching.  The trail I took (Croaking Frog) is hiker only.  There are over 20mi of trails in this 600+ acre park so lots to explore.  As Craig Romano pointed out in his great Kitsap Urban Trails Guidebook, you can't really get lost because they all eventually dump you on the closed access road that surrounds the park and which gets you back to the trailhead parking lot.

ON the way out it was great fun delighting incoming hikers with extra chocolate truffles I had brought.  Happy Thanksgiving!
